Gov. Code 831.4 grants immunity from tort liability for injuries suffered on hiking trails to both the government entity that owns the trail and to the grantor of the trail property or easement.  Here, the grantor of the trail easement was entitled to the statutory immunity which extends to the design or location of the trail.  Here, the location of the trail was a cause of the injury to plaintiff—who was hit by a golf ball from an adjacent golf course operated by the trail grantor.
