Harry A. Hagan

Mr. Hagan provides counseling to clients in the insurance and reinsurance industries, particularly in the areas of complex coverage matters and coverage litigation. He also advises insurers regarding product development, policy drafting, and negotiated settlements.

Since 1988, Mr. Hagan has represented insurance and reinsurance clients. He joined Severson & Werson in 2009. Mr. Hagan advises insurers about complex coverage claims, including in such varied contexts as environmental claims, lead paint public nuisance claims, asbestos claims, habitability claims, professional malpractice claims, product defect claims, and construction defect claims. He also advises in reinsurance matters, including representing both reinsurers and ceding insurers.

Mr. Hagan advises insurers on coverage issues arising under specialty lines policies, including professional liability policies, directors and officers policies, and errors and omissions policies.

Over the years, Mr. Hagan has also represented primary and excess liability insurers, and reinsurers, in all aspects of in coverage litigation, from initial pleading stages through discovery, motion practice, trial, and appellate briefing. He has negotiated settlements of complex insurance and reinsurance claims and participated in arbitrations and numerous mediations.

Mr. Hagan received his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall School of Law) in 1988.

Prior to entering the legal field, Mr. Hagan worked as a geologist and retains his California Registered Geologist license #5762. Mr. Hagan previously served as a Planning Commissioner for Mariposa County, California (2006-2007).
