"I describe my work as challenging, intellectual, and complex. These qualities provide me with an ideal environment for my practice to thrive and succeed."
Jessica left a large national law firm to join Severson’s San Francisco based Insurance Law Group in the Spring of 2017, bringing almost two decades of coverage experience.
After having the foresight to take it as an elective in law school, Jessica’s practice has included at least some aspect of Insurance Coverage, either in litigation or counseling contexts, for the entirety of her career. The breadth of Jessica’s experience over most of the last two decades has included advice and litigation in the context of automobile, directors and officers, general liability – in the areas of construction, landlord-tenant, environmental, and toxic – and professional liability policies. She now draws upon her knowledge of the body of case authority developed to address these more traditional risks in helping her clients predict how courts will interpret new policy language which protects insureds against emerging risks such as privacy and cybersecurity. Jessica’s ability to quickly respond to challenging questions makes her an asset to her clients both in and out of the courtroom.
Jessica’s experience includes all aspects of litigation in state and federal courts including overall case strategy, discovery, and dispositive and non-dispositive motion practice. Jessica also has extensive experience preparing coverage evaluations and in communicating with counsel retained by insureds to ensure that coverage determinations are made based upon all of the pertinent information. Knowing the costs and stress of disputes, she frequently assists her clients to find a way to resolution through settlement, informally or in the mediation context.
After receiving her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, Jessica received her J.D. from the University of California at Hastings School of Law with a Civil Litigation Concentration. Jessica is admitted to practice in the State of California, including all of the Federal District courts. Jessica is proud to serve as chair of the Cultural Proficiency Committee in the Moraga School District as well as on the Oversight Committee for Measure V in Moraga. Jessica is a committed volunteer in the Moraga School District and also spent five years as a celebrated volunteer in the Menlo Park City School District.
