This decision affirms an order quashing service of summons on defendant FCCC for lack of personal jurisdiction.  FCCC is not subject to general jurisdiction in California as it is incorporated in Delaware and principally located in South Carolina.  It built the chassis for a bus that Champion Bus manufactured in Michigan.  The bus was involved in an accident in California.  Plaintiff bore the burden of proving specific personal jurisdiction was appropriate but introduced only website pages from FCCC’s website and another company’s.  While those pages might be minimally adequate to show that FCCC purposefully availed itself of the California market, it failed to show that plaintiff’s claims arose out of or were related to FCCC’s contacts with California.  In particular, plaintiff’s evidence didn’t show that FCCC sold the same or similar models of chassis into the California market or any other connection between FCCC’s California contacts and the claims in this lawsuit.
