Laura McCamy Named Alameda County’s Bike Commuter of the Year

(Last updated May 14, 2009)

Laura McCamy, a paralegal in Severson & Werson’s insurance practice group, was named Alameda County’s Bike Commuter of the Year. The top bike commuter award was bestowed on Ms. McCamy as part of the preparations for the 15th annual Bike to Work day on Thursday, May 14, 2009. Ms. McCamy gave up her car three years ago. She generally rides her bike to the MacArthur BART station in the morning and leaves it there. If she has to go somewhere in the city after work, she simply takes the bike into San Francisco on BART.

A survey conducted by Gary Richards of San Jose Mercury News discovered that more people would bike to work if they had access to a shower when they arrived. In Ms. McCamy's case, she said, “Severson has provided a friendly environment that’s made it easy for me to commute by bike." This is because Severson & Werson offers an onsite shower and dressing room. Therefore, employees who want to bike to work can do so without having to worry about not feeling fresh after a bike ride.
