Joel L. Halverson
Joel Halverson is a trial lawyer who focuses his practice
in the areas of construction litigation, professional liability
defense, and general litigation. A member of the firm's Construction
and Insurance Groups, Mr. Halverson was named among the "Best
Lawyers in the Bay Area" for construction litigation
in 2005 based on a survey conducted by Bay Area Lawyer
Magazine.
Mr. Halverson represents design professionals, developers,
owners and contractors in all matters of construction litigation.
His services to clients in the construction industry include
transactional and risk-management counseling. Mr. Halverson
also defends architects, engineers, attorneys, real estate
brokers and other professionals against allegations of errors
and omissions, professional negligence and other claims. Mr.
Halverson has extensive experience representing clients in
arbitration and mediation, and also acts as an ADR provider
through his role as a settlement panelist and arbitrator
with the Marin County Superior Court.
Mr. Halverson frequently writes and speaks on legal developments
and issues of interest to his clients. His articles include
"Abolition of Standard of Care in Residential Design? Study
of SB 800's Impacts on Design Professionals" published by the
Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education
and Practice © ASCE,
January 2004.
Mr. Halverson is active in a number of professional organizations,
including the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California
and Nevada (ADC).
Mr. Halverson joined Severson & Werson in 1996, and has
been a member of the firm since 2002. He obtained his J.D. (1994)
from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law,
and his B.A. (1990), cum laude, from Pomona College.
