Mary Kate Sullivan joined Severson & Werson in 1998, and is Special Counsel in the firm’s Financial Services Litigation group. As such, she prosecutes and defends actions arising from complex business transactions, fiduciary relationships, professional malpractice, partnerships, employment termination, insurance bad faith, and business torts. She is involved with the firm’s class action practice, representing mortgage banking companies in a series of interrelated class actions involving loan payoff and reconveyance procedures, and raising claims based on statutory violations, unfair business practices, breach of contract, and fraud. Ms. Sullivan also has experience with appeals and extraordinary writ proceedings in state and federal appellate courts.

Prior to obtaining her law degree in 1995, Ms. Sullivan was a practicing nurse. She still maintains her nursing license on active status.
 

Ms. Sullivan practices in commercial litigation, at trial and appellate levels, in both state and federal courts.

Ms. Sullivan's specific experience includes:

Business and Commercial Litigation: Prosecute and defend actions arising from complex business transactions, fiduciary relationships, professional malpractice, partnerships, employment termination, insurance bad faith, and business torts.

Financial Institution Litigation: Representation of financial institutions, primarily mortgage lenders and loan servicers, in suits raising a variety of lender liability claims.

Credit Card Litigation: Defense of claims of collection torts and prosecution of actions to collect credit accounts.

Class Actions: Representation of mortgage banking companies in a series of interrelated class actions involving loan payoff and reconveyance procedures, and raising claims based on statutory violations, unfair business practices, breach of contract, and fraud.

Appeals: Appeals and extraordinary writ proceedings in state and federal appellate courts.

Lender Liability Claims: Defense of lenders against lender liability claims, including fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and other commercial torts.
