Mr. Sears defends financial institutions against consumer and class actions in state and federal court. He litigates on behalf of banks, mortgage lenders, and servicers in suits involving TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, RICO, Business and Professions Code section 17200, contract, and tort claims.

Prior to joining Severson & Werson, Mr. Sears litigated at a national law firm where his practice focused on business, real estate, and intellectual property litigation with an emphasis on complex litigation and trademark disputes. Mr. Sears has handled matters at all stages of litigation in both state and federal courts, for clients in a wide range of industries.

Mr. Sears received his J.D. in 2004 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he served as editor in chief of the Hastings Communications & Entertainment Law Journal. Prior to law school, Mr. Sears was an information systems analyst in the Silicon Valley.

Financial Institution Litigation:
Representation of financial institutions in lawsuits raising a variety of lender liability claims. Mr. Sears defends financial institutions against consumer and class actions in state and federal court. He litigates on behalf of banks, mortgage lenders, and servicers in suits involving TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, RICO, Business and Professions Code section 17200, contract, and tort claims.

Business and Commercial Litigation: Prosecute and defend actions arising from complex business transactions, fiduciary relationships, contracts, and business torts. 

Class Actions: Representation of financial institutions and lenders in class actions raising claims based on allegations of statutory violations, unfair business practices, breach of contract, or fraud.
